2 Months

Mackenzie turned 2 months old on December 23. She had her 2 month check-up on the 22nd.
Her stats are as follows:
11 lbs 4.5 oz
22.5 inches long
15 inch head circumference
I tried looking up the percentiles, but I kept getting differing amounts. I think she is somewhere in the 50-75th percetile for weight and height, with her a head a little under 50%. She is our little chunk! (Just like her brother was!)

She had to get 3 shots. Which she absolutely hated! This girl has got a set of lungs on her and she let the entire office hear them! But, she was screaming even before she got the shots. She didn't even like the doctor listening to her heart or looking at her eyes and ears!
She is starting to smile a lot more and it is the cutest smile ever! When she is getting her diaper changed, she loves to look at the stickers on the wall next to the changing table and she'll just smile! Also, when I am nursing her in her room, she'll look up at the hair bows a friend made for her and smile! And just today, when I was getting her out of bed, she gave me the biggest smile! I love this girl!

"Who Needs Santa When I Have Grandma?"
Here is Mackenzie opening her first ever present. She was super excited, can't ya tell?!

Devin got a tractor, a farm, and a Toy Story desk chair.

Mackenzie got a cute pink hippo, a glow worm, and pink BYU apparel.

I got some raspberry sticks and scrapbooking supplies, among other things.

Morian got 3 games of Dominion. One is the original and 2 are expansions.

Church

So, Mackenzie had her first trip to church on December 5. She and I only made it to Sacrament Meeting and she spent the entire time in her car seat asleep. But we went! And even though I figured she'd sleep right through church, I had to dress her up cute!

The dress is actually a shirt (but it totally fits her right now as a dress) and the tights and shoes were too big, but she looked absolutely adorable!
We made it to all of church the next week and she wore the same outfit again. (I wanted to try on a different dress, but it's hard to get everyone ready for 9 AM church, so I went with what I knew fit her!) She slept through Priesthood and Sunday School (Morian took her while I went to Primary) and then was awake during most of Sacrament Meeting. I had to take her out to feed and change her and we were gone like half the meeting, but I was still able to hear the talks in the Mother's Room.

Devin's First Real Injury

So, I had surgery on my foot on Wednesday, November 17 (another story for another post), during which my mom came down to watch the kids for us. And then she took Devin home with her for the rest of the week to give me time to heal and only have to watch one kid by myself.
I was enjoying my lazy day at home with Mackenzie, watching Gilmore Girls, when I get a call from my mom, who sounded almost in tears, asking me what insurance we had for Devin. That got me a little nervous. When I asked why, she told me that he had tripped and fallen and split his head on her fireplace and there was blood everywhere and he had screamed and cried for a while. I was panic-stricken. I had thought about giving her a copy of his insurance card, just in case, but then forgot. I told her where she could go to get his head looked at up there, explaining to them that they could call me. I also told my mom to take a picture (which she forgot to do!)
She waited until my dad got home and then they took him to the urgent care clinic. They cleaned the wound and then gave him 5 stitches. My dad said Devin cried when they took off the band aid my mom had out on it and when they gave him the numbing shot, but that he was pretty good while they put in the stitches, even falling asleep during the last couple. My brave little boy!

An up close shot of his wound. Pretty nasty, eh? And that's after they cleaned it!

I had to take Devin in a week later to get the stitches out. I guess he will have a scar, but it shouldn't be too bad, as long as we remember to put sun screen on it any time he will be outside.
His doctor got out a mirror and showed him his head before he took the stitches out and Devin kind of ooh'd at it. His doc thought his reaction was pretty funny!
I got a couple pictures of his stitched up wound before his doctor took the stitches out.

An up close look- he's like Frankenstein!

And here he is right after the stitches were removed. Devin did an awesome job of holding still while the doctor worked. He said the first initial pull is kind of a zinger, but Devin never even once flinched. I was holding his arms, but I didn't even need to. I wish I had gotten out my phone to record to the removal process.

Devin got a Scooby-Doo band aid put on it, which he was super excited about! But then he took it off the next morning. We kept trying to keep band aids on it, and even though he would ask for one, he would never keep them on for very long! Silly boy!

Devin's 2 Year Check-up

Today Devin finally went in to the doctor for his 2 year check-up (at 26 months).
Nothing much really happened besides getting weighed and measured and poked 3 times with needles. :( He cried so hard when he got those vaccines that I almost cried! (I blame screwed up hormones from having a baby!) And he's actually been complaining of his legs hurting, which he's never done before after getting shots. Poor little boy!
And here are his stats:
Height: 33.5 inches (10-25th %)
Weight: 25 lbs 10 oz (10-25th%)
So, still a little on the small side, but not as much as when he was just a year old. But he seems huge to me, especially after I've been holding Mackenzie!
Dude, we went in for his appointment at 4:30 this afternoon. We got called back at like 5:15. And it was 6:05 when we finally left the office. Wowzers!

And here is Mr. Cute!

Mackenzie is 2 weeks old already!

(I was trying to take a picture of me and Kenzie and she kept trying to eat my face! Hungry much?!)

So, today Mackenzie had her 2 week check-up. Everything looked good (well, that's what I'm assuming since the doctor didn't say he saw anything that alarmed him!) So here is how Kenzie is measuring up:
Length: 20 inches (up from 18.5 at birth)
Weight: 7 lbs 2.5 oz (up 1 lb 1 oz from birth and up 1 lb 7 oz from the time she was 2 days old)
Obviously, she is getting enough to eat (the little piggy!) And yet, she still looks so small and is fitting okay in her preemie clothes. Maybe she'll fit into newborn stuff soon!
She also had to get her heel pricked for the PKU testing and she did not like that! My poor baby!
She gets to go in for her 2 month check-up 3 days before Christmas. Merry Christmas! Here, have a bunch of shots! :(

Mackenzie's First Bath (at home)

Mackenzie finally got her first bath at home on Halloween. Morian took a couple videos of it that are too big to post, but we took some pictures of her chillin' in her towel all clean. (She has a hooded towel that the hood is absolutely huge on her little head! So cute!)

But ever since her bath she has had the driest skin ever! No matter how much lotion I put on her tummy and feet and hands, she is still peeling! Devin never had this problem so I'm at a loss as to how to help it get better. Hmph!

Halloween (a little late)

Since Halloween fell on a Sunday this year, we celebrated on Saturday. And by we, I mean Morian and Devin! Mackenzie is still a little small and young to be going out around a bunch of people, so us girls just hung out at home together.
Saturday morning/early afternoon Morian took Devin to the Gallivan Center where they had a "Monster Black Party" with booths set up for kids to trick-or-treat at and some other activities. The boys just went for the TOT'ing. Devin's costume was a big hit; everyone thought he was so cute! Besides candy, Devin got a cookie. He loves to go right for the frosting on top!

Cute little Buzz with a green mustache!

We had our ward Halloween party Saturday afternoon/evening that consisted of a Trunk-or-Treat and a chili cook-off dinner.
Here is Devin modeling his costume with his pumpkin candy collector!

We asked Devin who he was and this is how he says Buzz!

Morian was going to take Devin trick-or-treating around the neighborhood after the party, but unfortunately it was rainy and windy and cold. So I just had to be satisfied with the (small) amount of candy that Devin had already collected!
I had wanted to get a cute little Halloween outfit for Mackenzie to wear and we actually did have one, but it was way too big and I didn't have time to go to the store to look for something smaller. So, it passed like any other day for her. Next year will be much better! (She'll actually fit into a costume!)

My Crazy Birth Story

Preface- I began dilating as early as 35 weeks. When I went in for my appointment that week, I was already at 2.25 cm. Two weeks later I was 3.25 cm and 25% effaced. At 38 weeks I was 3.5 cm and 50% effaced, so I hadn't made a whole lot of progress that week, but my doctor said that I was very soft and he thought that when I did go into labor I would progress quickly. My doctor then stripped my membranes at that appointment and I was hoping that would help things along. I had contractions off and on that day and into the night (my contractions we always worse at night) but then I felt nothing for 2 days straight.
Three days after my 38 week check-up, I started feeling sick. I was fine until about noon and then I was vomiting and having diarrhea the rest of the day. Not fun! I had no energy and poor Devin wanted me to play with him and take him outside, but I just couldn't. It sucked really bad! I did finally have contractions again, but they weren't really painful and they were really sporadic. I felt bad when Morian got home and the house was a mess, no dinner was made, and Devin hadn't eaten anything for a while. While I moaned on the couch, Morian made some dinner for Devin and then put him to bed. Then he came out and gave me a blessing and I was in bed at 8:30. Before I was able to fall asleep, I heard Devin whining and Morian got him out for a little while before putting him back to bed, where he finally fell asleep. I'm guess I was probably asleep by 9 PM.
I woke up at 11 and needed to go to the bathroom. It was diarrhea, but a lot calmer than it had been most of the day. I got back into bed and as I tried to get comfortable, I had a contraction that was unlike any other I'd ever had. There was major pain in my low lower back, almost butt, and I could feel major pressure and pain down in my pelvis, kind of like I needed to take a major poo. It didn't last too long. But then I had a couple more, so I decided to time them. They were coming every 2 minutes and lasting 30 seconds. I timed them for about half an hour (until 11:50) and they were still coming consistently. (Some were as close as 1.5 minutes and the longest were 3 minutes apart.) So I went to wake up Morian, who was sleeping out on the couch. I told him I thought I was in labor. So he got up and started getting ready. (I had earlier called Labor and Delivery but the message just said to come in if you suspect you're in labor.) Now I tried calling my doctor's office. Their message also said to just go in. So then I had to decide who to call to come stay with Devin. I had talked to my mom earlier, but since it was pretty much midnight, I didn't know if that was a good idea. So I thought I'd call Maren first. When I called, she sounded pretty awake, but I still asked her if she was awake! She had recently gotten home (she is single after all!). I asked her if she was busy and she was like, "No, I was just reading my scriptures...why? Are you in labor?" I said I thought I might be so she said she could come over. While waiting for her to get here, Morian and I desperately searched for the camera. It was not in any of the usual places. We finally found it hiding inside the couch. I didn't pack a bag to take with us, b/c I just couldn't think of what I needed and I figured I could have Morian bring it all later. Well, Maren was taking longer than I liked since I was still having contractions really close together and they were still incredibly painful. So, we got in the car and thought to just meet Maren down the street. And we did. We told her to go on in and then we were on our way to the hospital. It was 12:25 AM. It took us about 10 minutes to get there. I had Morian drop me off at the door so I could slowly make my way inside while he parked the car and caught up to me. I had to basically ring a doorbell to Labor and Delivery and let them know I was in labor so I could be allowed into the hospital. Morian caught up to me as I was going in to L&D. Thankfully I had pre-registered, so all we had to do was check-in and sign a couple things. Whenever I got a contraction, I would fall to the floor and just kinda moan/groan whatever while trying to deal with the pain. They couldn't get a hold of a wheelchair, so finally a nurse and Morian took me by my arms and helped me walk around the corner to a triage room. The nurse was like, take off your pants and put on this gown. I didn't even take my shirt off. As soon as I was gowned, I got on the bed and they strapped the baby moniter thing around my wasit to make sure baby was alright. She was great. Another nurse was also there and she checked my cervix. (Remember on Tuesday I was 3.5 cm.) I was at 7+. Holy cow! They asked if I wanted an epidural and I was like, if he can get here quick! They helped me roll over onto my left side while we waited for the anesthesiologist. When I would have a contraction, I would have an incredible urge to push.. I voiced this to the nurses and they told me I couldn't. I had to just breath in through my nose and let it out slowly through my mouth. And the harder the contraction, the longer my breath needed to be. I tried not to push, but sometimes it seemed like my body just took over and would push just a little. When the drug doc got there, he helped me move to the edge of the bed. He numbed my back and then tried to insert the needle. I'm not really sure what did or didn't happen back there (I was a little preoccupied!) but I know something was too thin or small and he was having a hard time doing something and then suddenly he just stopped and left. (Later we were told that he wasn't going to charge us since I never actually got the epidural.) So, no drugs. I was still painfully contracting and trying not to push, but feeling an incredible pressure in between my pelvic bones. I could hear the nurses making comments about my water bag b/c it still hadn't popped and they could see it bulging out of my body! I got rolled back onto my back and told to spread my knees apart. That hurt! Morian said there was like a baseball-sized amount of the bag hanging outside me and the nurses were all scrambling around b/c they didn't wanna get sprayed when it broke! I know someone was getting an instrument to pop it if it didn't go on its own. And Morian also said he could see the head through the water ball, like she was right there. Finally the nurse or doctor or someone said I could push to break my water. So I pushed, my water broke, and out popped a head! I think I remember hearing her cry and then her body just slid out. No one was really ready for her to come out like that. Morian definitely wasn't, as he was scrambling in his pocket trying to get the camera out! She was born at 1:01 AM. We had been at the hospital less than half an hour before she was born and my total labor was slightly less than 2 hours!
After they cut the cord, I was able to hold her for a while and just bask in her cuteness while the nurses were mean and pushed on my tummy to help me deliver the placenta. (That hurt worse than giving birth!) I also tore a little bit and had to get a few stitches.
So, that is how our little Baby Boo was introduced into the world. She sure did make an entrance! (I'm pretty sure it was the most excitement Labor and Delivery had seen all night!)
The doctor who delivered her wasn't my doctor, nor was she the on-call doctor for my doctor. I guess she was the emergency on-call doctor there in L&D for cases such as mine. Pretty crazy!
Since she came a little early (about a week) and things happened so fast with the birth, Morian and I weren't ready with a name picked out. We hemmed and hawed about it for the next couple days while I was in the hospital and we still didn't have a name for her when the time came for us to go home. So, poor Baby Boo came home nameless. We then spent the next few days mulling over names. And finally, early this afternoon (Thursday) we settled on a name. Baby Boo is now officially Mackenzie Rylie Black. Welcome to our family Kenzie!

P.S.Don't forget to look at the next post for lots of pictures of our new baby girl!

Picture overload

"What are you doing?!"
(See the brown stuff on her legs? Yeah, she pooped as soon as they put her down to check her vitals and stuff. The nurse exclaimed, "We scared the poo right outta ya!" hehe!)

She weighed 6 lbs 2 oz when she was born
When she came home 2 days later she weighed 5 lbs 11 oz

After the cleaned her up a bit and weighed and measured her, they gave her back to me and wanted her skin to skin. I still had my shirt on, so they just stuffed her under and poked her head out the top. Nice and cozy!

She kept licking my chest, so we figured I should try and nurse her!

Devin seeing his new baby sister for the first time- not sure what think

I love this picture!

"Hmmm...what do I think about her??"

"My turn! I wanna hold her!"

Devin holding his new baby sister
(we took a video of the first time Devin held Baby Boo and he was so cute with her!)

Bending down to give her a kiss

"Okay, I'm done now!"

I just love this picture of her for some reason!

Mommy and Baby

Look at those skinny legs!

I love her spiky hair!

My little burrito baby! (Nice profile!)

So sweet!

Daddy Morian holding his baby girl

She looks so tiny in the car seat!
(And I thought Devin had looked small in it!)

She started fussing from being in the car seat so we bundled her up and rocked her until she fell asleep.
I picked up the car seat when it was time to go and I couldn't even tell there was a person in it, it was so light!
