Devin's Newest Injury

So, on Thursday evening, Morian was ironing his shirt. After he was done, he put the iron on the kitchen counter to cool then went to get changed. Devin proceeded to climb up onto the kitchen counter, and while laughing, grabbed the iron. The laughter quickly gave way to a cry of pain as he dropped the iron back down onto the counter. I rushed over to him and ran cool water onto his hand. The water really wasn't that cool (it takes forever to change temperatures) so Morian got an ice pack and wrapped it in a towel. I then held Devin on my lap for about half an hour as he held onto the ice. I then noticed his arm looked red so I tried to get the ice on it too, but Devin was more concerned with his hand.
Devin wasn't acting like his hand hurt at all; after the first initial cry out, he was very calm. But then when I tried to look at his hand (after that first 30m or so) he would start crying as soon as contact with the ice was broken. I gave him some tylenol and continued to just hold him (even though it was bedtime). I was finally able to get a look at it without him crying and then I transferred his hand/arm to a bowl of cool water.
This is what it looked like about an hour or so after it happened:
I wrapped it up in gauze to protect the blisters while he slept:
And here is Devin giving me his best frowny face:
By the next morning, he was using his hand like normal and not acting like it hurt at all. The blister on his arm puffed up and has since popped. The ones on his hand then puffed up and so far are all intact. I was able to get a better picture of his injuries the next day:
Ouch!

60 Years

Yesterday we had a celebration party in honor of my grandparents' 60th wedding annivesary (which was in March). We had a lunch with family and then a "reception" where extended family and friends could come and visit. We had yummy cupcakes, cookies, fruit, veggies, and even a wedding cake! There was a slideshow with music playing in the background with pictures of my grandparents, their children, their grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren. And we also had a few musical numbers, since my grandparents are always asking us to play the piano for them or to sing. My mom and Uncle Milton (her brother) played a piano/cello duet; my mom and Sirie (my sister) played a piano duet; I played the piano while Maren (my sister) played the flute and my mom, Kayley (my sister), and Sirie (my sister) sang; my Aunt Marilyn (married to Uncle Milton) played a piano solo; and my mom played the piano while me, Maren, Kayley, and Sirie sang a song.

After the picture above was taken, Devin tried to get Grandma to walk with him. She doesn't walk too well and has a hard time getting up, so Devin grabbed Grandpa's hand instead and they walked around together, hand-in-hand. So cute!

I LOVE this picture of them looking at each other!
My Grandma and Grandpa Thibault (my mom's parents)- what a beautiful couple!
Ah, boys with be boys!

They were camped out here for a while!
Here are just a few pictures of me with Mackenzie since I don't really have any and I was actually looking pretty good!
Kenzie has been doing this little hug thing lately when she is being "shy" around other people. I love it!

We took some 4 generation pictures:
I love that Kenzie is the only one looking at the camera in this picture!

Sitting

Mackenzie recently learned how to get to a sitting position from laying down. And she loves to practice it in bed when she is supposed to be going to sleep! Almost as soon as I put her down she will roll over and sit up. And then she will play for a while and then start fussing. Because you see, she is tired but still sitting up! And then her head starts bobbing and she'll almost fall over, which will wake her up.
Well, on Saturday, she didn't take a nap all afternoon and was having troubles falling asleep for bed. Finally she was so tired she zonked out. Sitting up and hunched over onto her legs. I had to get pictures!

She also fell asleep sitting on Sunday night, last night, and again this morning for her first nap.

I know this is kind of hard to see, but I was watching the monitor and could see her head bobbing as she was falling asleep and thought, I've got to record that!

28 is...

  • the second perfect number
  • the number of days in February
  • the fourth magic number in physics
  • the number of days in the average menstrual cycle
  • the number of letters in the Danish and Swedish alphabets
  • the number of Chinese constellations
  • approximately the number of grams in an ounce
  • the number of years Kirsta has been alive!
So, I celebrated my 28th birthday on Wednesday, July 6. To start the day off, we went to I-Hop for breakfast. Devin was crazy and wouldn't sit still and Kenzie was grabbing at our food like crazy! She got a big handful of whipped cream off my funnel cakes when they arrived. At least she knows the good stuff to grab! After naps in the afternoon, we all went swimming, with Morian's sisters, Shari and Cecilia. This was Kenzie's first time "swimming" and she absolutely loved it! She had a big smile on her face almost the whole time she was in the water! Devin was a little nervous at first, like he couldn't remember if he liked it or not. He eventually warmed up to it. Morian even took him down the water slide. Of course, when they got to the bottom, Devin had quite the serious look on his face but after I cheered him, he kind of smiled and said "More!" He went down that slide about 6-7 (or more!) times! He kept trying to go down by himself and on the last slide, Morian pretty much sat him between his legs and only grabbed on to him at the bottom to keep him from going under! He LOVED it!

After swimming, we went home and I put Kenzie to bed. Morian's sisters stayed at our house to watch the kids while Morian and I went out to dinner and bowling. We went to Outback Steakhouse. I totally ordered 2 baked sweet potatoes with my entree. hehe! And they were both delicious! Near the end of our meal when our waiter asked if we wanted dessert Morian told him that I wanted them to sing Happy Birthday to me. That little stinker! So a couple of waiters came over and did a quick little "Happy Birthday to You!" and gave me a big coop of ice cream on oreo crumbs topped with whipped cream and a cherry.
Next we went to Fat Cats to go bowling. We hadn't been in forever! We both did pretty good our first games- I got 165 and Morian got 130-something (I think?!). Our next game was not so hot! Morian sunk down to like 89 and I got 121. The third game I went down a little more to 118, and Morian at least passed 100 (he got 101!)  Morian also gave me the card game Guillotine. It's a fun and easy game that we learned from my brother.
The next day we went over to Morian's mom's house to celebrate mine and his sister's birthdays. His sister, Angie's, birthday is July 8. We had chicken parmigiana for dinner and then had cake and ice cream for dessert. Angie requested a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and since Morian's mom knows I don't like that, she was kind enough to make another cake for me. And she made my favorite- rainbow chip cake with rainbow chip frosting. Yum! I forgot our camera, so Morian had to take pictures with my phone and the camera on it is really slow (hence my wild look in the last picture!)

Update on Life

I know I don't post enough for some of you (mainly mom/grandma!), but it is hard to find time in the day! Anyone with kids will understand what I'm saying! ;) But, I am gonna start blogging at least once a week on Sundays and then any other day that we actually do something blog-worthy. For today, I will just give an update on our life and add some pictures of ym cute kids b/c really, that's why you look at my blog, right?!

Morian is still working for Wells Fargo but he switched departments. He went from working in the investments to private banking. He is still in a call center but this time for the "rich" customers of Wells Fargo who need help with their bank accounts. He also got a new schedule to go along with this new "job." He now works Friday-Monday 12:30-11:00pm. That's right- he works ALL weekend. BUT, he does have Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday off. Where it sucks that he has to work on Sunday (we now have to leave church about 5 minutes early to get me and the kids home before he heads to work- at least he can still make it to church) and any chance to hang out is gone, it's nice in that he gets 3 full days off in the middle of the week, he has better times to take classes, and I get some me/alone time at the end of the day!

Kirsta (me!) is still busy being a stay-at-home mom to the 2 most beautiful kids in the world! What a daunting task! I really have nothing else to say about me b/c my entire life revolves around those little cuties. I take the kids to the elementary school right by our house almost every week day for free lunch. Well, Devin gets a free lunch; I share some of it with Kenzie as she is learning to eat finger foods.

Devin is a busy 2.5 year old. Actually, he's more than 2.5; I can't believe he will be 3 in September! He is still working with a speech therapist who comes to our home 2 times a month and he goes to a class once a week. (Well, he has July off, but will start again in August.) He enjoys class and every time we pick him up, his teachers rave about how well he is speaking (for him!) and what a good job he is doing. He has no problem going to class and staying there without me or Morian. Awesome! He will be getting tested soon to see if he qualifies for pre-school, which would start in September. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he qualifies b/c I think he will need the continued help, more than what I can give him here at home. When he turns 3, he will no longer get the home visits from his speech therapist. I can't believe how well he is talking; he is doing fantastic compared to where he was a year ago.  But really, he is still quite far from where he should be/where others his age are.

Mackenzie is such a sweetheart and getting bigger every day! She is now 8 months old, I can hardly believe it! She's still has chubby little cheeks, which are the cutest! I have no idea how big she is, but she has her 9 month check-up later this month. She is a rolling machine! That's how she gets around these days, or else gets carried! She is nowhere close to crawling; she won't get up on her knees at all when on her tummy and doesn't have the arm strength to army-crawl around. She has 4 teeth- 2 top and 2 bottom. The top ones just barely cut through this week. She loves the gerber puffs and stuffs them into her mouth as fast as she can. She also likes to drink water from a sippy, usually Devin's! If only we could get her to drink formula from a sippy...

bottom teeth...
 top teeth...
So, Devin likes to "shave" along with Morian. Well, on Friday, I guess he got a razor without a lid on and hacked away at his lips. Poor boy! In this first one you can kind of see the scratches on his top lip, as well as the bandaid on his lower lip...
this was the best I could get of his bottom lip...
documentation of Mackenzie's first real "owie" she fell into the entertainment center and got a big scratch on her head. she had a big scream for about a minute or 2 and then was done.
 cute kids!
 Me and my kiddos
having fun playing the pots and pans drums!
 what a stud!
 man I love this girl!
Hopefully this video works!
